Two weeks ago we had a sell-out intergenerational mentoring event organised for Leeds Digital Festival in April. Clearly the event has been cancelled. But tech entrepreneurs need a helping hand and a mentor now, more than ever.
I had a thought provoking – and sad – conversation with an HR director of a professional firm recently. We are doing a workshop for partners to help them think about their future – unretirement, if you like. Like many firms they are starting to help partners some years ahead, not just in the last year as they are about to leave.
If you are over 50 and aspiring to be an entrepreneur, you may be curious about business or wondering if it is too late to start a business. If that’s you then this may be the article you need to read.
On a scale of one to ten, how much have you thought about retirement? If you have at all, is it a sort of fantasy world of travelling and relaxing? Or a move into a portfolio of interesting roles? Or playing golf and walking with friends most days?
Next-Up organised an inspirational workshop for partners coming up to retirement. Part of this was mentoring tech entrepreneurs – hear this next generation say how it helped them. And what did the partners think? One said, “Our country is in safe hands with these young people” and another said “I am going to help this entrepreneur – I can learn more from her than I will be able to help.”
I am writing this blog to reassure an experienced generation of business leaders that they have a great deal of value to tech entrepreneurs – and younger people in whatever walk of life.
