We are currently looking for e-mentors to support young people on our online Enterprise and Employability programmes as part of our brand new digital learning platform, Prince’s Trust Online. 


About the organisation:

Prince’s Trust Online is a brand new e-learning and mentoring platform designed to provide support to young people we traditionally haven’t been able to reach, and forms part of our growth strategy which will see us support one million young people over the next 10 years.

Prince’s Trust Online is for young people who are unemployed or underemployed and living in the UK. Enterprise is for young people who have a business idea that they want to explore and Employability is for young people who are looking to get into work. By underemployed, we mean if a young person says they work part-time but would like to work more, are on a flexible or zero hours contract but would like to work more, or are on a temporary fixed-term contract ending in the next three months.

Prince’s Trust Online is not intended as a replacement of our face-to-face programmes but intended to help those young people who can’t currently access our support. This also widens our volunteering offer to those who can’t come into centres or work full-time.

What does the role involve?

As an e-mentor, you’ll make a real difference to the lives of young people by providing them with one-to-one-support, guidance, encouragement and inspiration at a time and location that suits you. Using live chat and video calls, you will help the young person complete and understand e-learning modules based around getting into employment or self-employment.

You will mentor each young person online for up to three months and help them set goals and objectives tailored to their individual needs. The time commitment is up to two hours on the platform every week. We recommend a weekly video call and a quick daily check of the platform, but it’s up to you and your mentee to decide what works best for both of you.

The Employability Programme focuses on helping the young person to develop their confidence, job search, CV and interview skills. The Enterprise Programme focuses on helping the young person to explore if self-employment is right for them.

Skills looking for:

The Prince’s Trust will provide training and support to carry out your role, but ideally you will have the following:

  • Confidence using digital platforms
  • You don’t need to have specific business knowledge as a big part of the role is facilitating learning and encouraging the young person to reach their goals
  • An understanding of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in an online relationship
  • An understanding of the issues facing The Trust’s target groups
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to uphold the values of The Trust. Our values are approachable, non-judgemental, inspiring, empowering and passionate
