The role of Honorary Treasurer within the SDC is a pivotal one, with a position on the Society’s Board, Finance Committee, Audit Committee and as a Director of SDC International Ltd. The post is not remunerated but expenses are covered.
The current post holder will retire in May 2020 at the next AGM and we are seeking a replacement to shadow and then take on the role at that time.
Knowledge of finances and accounts is essential, as is an understanding of charitable operations, although training will be available.
Management accounts are produced monthly by staff in the Headquarters and disseminated via the Honorary Treasurer to the committees.
The Honorary Treasurer attends the Society’s Board meetings (ca 7x pa), AGM, and Finance Committee meetings (as the Chair ca 7x pa) in Bradford (AGM in York) to present the financial position and answer questions on progress.
Finance and numerical skills, especially in relation to charities. Presentation skills to enable Board and Committee members, and the AGM, to understand the financial position and direction of the SDC. A knowledge of charitable governance also, although training is provided. Ability to work as part of a senior team responsible for the charity sustainability and delivery.

The SDC was founded in 1884 and is a registered charity (212331) and a Royal Chartered Body ‘Educating the changing world in the science of colour’. With headquarters in central Bradford the SDC has a worldwide membership with key strategies around education and communities. The Royal Charter enables the SDC to offer several qualifications and especially the NARIC assessed as degree equivalent ASDC and the unique CCol status Educational activities are delivered online in real time and via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
