Join our board of trustees

As the performing arts sector faces unprecedented challenges, Theatre Royal Wakefield are looking to develop our Board so it can support and inspire the staff and increase our social impact and resilience.

We are keen to meet dynamic and passionate individuals who share our belief that the arts can inspire and enrich people’s lives. Being a trustee is a voluntary role which is essential to effective running of any charity. We are committed to ensuring that our governance structures are inclusive and represent the communities we serve.

At this challenging time we are looking for new Board members to join us who can: Challenge and move forward strategy Support the leadership to form decisive and resilient plans We are committed to diversity, equality and inclusion and we welcome applications from people traditionally under-represented amongst Boards, including but not limited to people under 30, disabled people and Black, Asian or other ethnically diverse people.

Skills required:

We have identified some specific skills and experiences that we think would enrich the diversity of our board; we definitely don’t expect one person to have experience in all of these areas! Financial / Audit Fundraising / Income generation Theatre practitioners or theatre-makers of all disciplines Premises management/Property development Volunteer management.

We are also very keen to hear from individuals who do not meet these specific criteria but believe they could contribute to our thinking and our future success and resilience.


About the organisation:

Theatre Royal Wakefield’s mission is to develop new creative opportunities and experiences in our theatre building, throughout the wider community and on tour, encouraging high quality engagement in the Performing Arts. There’s something to excite and delight everyone at Theatre Royal Wakefield, from the smallest to the tallest! We have shows for families, for fans of music, drama, comedy and more.

Our stage is usually occupied 265 days of the year and some of the work is made by us, right here in Wakefield (like our hugely popular pantomime). The rest we hand pick from the best that the UK has to offer. Theatre Royal Wakefield is for everyone, that’s why we are also proud to present work from our local community, amateur societies and groups on our stages. Not only that but we take our productions around the UK too, spreading the Wakefield name far and wide!
