Volunteers needed

About us

Harrogate Fair Trade Shop has been right in the heart of Harrogate for over 30 years, based in the former porch of St Peter’s Church. Despite our small premises we make the most of the space we have, selling an incredible range of products from around the world: wooden toys, accessories, gifts, cards and food.

We believe in putting people before profit, and this means supporting artisans and farmers in the global south to make and grow wonderful things. The products we sell help people feed their families, send their children to school and pay for medical bills, giving them security for the future and helping to restore dignity and hope.

Would you like to help us in our quest?

We wouldn’t exist without our fantastic team of volunteers who staff the shop, serving and assisting customers, answering queries, and keeping the shop looking its best. You don’t need experience in retail, just a couple of hours to spare on a regular basis and an eagerness to learn about the things we sell and the stories behind them. Our storeroom in Community House is where all the unpacking and pricing is done – there are opportunities to help here too. We always welcome new people to the team, especially at Christmas time, our busiest period.

About the Organisation

Harrogate Fair Trade is a registered charity and a member of the British Association of Fair Trade Shops. The global trading system is skewed against developing countries where many of the things we eat, wear and use are produced. Fair Trade aims to even up the system by paying workers a decent wage, ensuring good, safe working conditions and supporting sustainable production that respects the environment. Everything we sell helps someone to help themselves.
